CLASSES
Lessons are conducted either as in-person lessons or as virtual lessons via Zoom, as offered. In line with international data protection requirements, virtual lessons are not recorded. Exceptions are not possible.
For courses with in-person lessons:
Students who are unable to attend in person have the option to watch the lesson via Zoom live. We strongly advise against extensive Zoom participation due to its reduced learning effect.
Should Zoom participation be unavailable temporarily, Goethe-Institut Singapore cannot be held liable, no refund/discount can be granted.
TERMS OF PAYMENT
Registration within published registration periods (standard, intensive & 4-week courses):
Fees are payable in full on enrolment, no later than 5 working days* after registration. (see term dates & registration periods here)
Registration outside published registration periods or for courses without fixed registration period:
Fees are payable in full on enrolment, no later than 2 working days* after registration.
We only accept payment via bank transfer.
Failure to make timely payment will result in an immediate loss of place in the course, without further notice.
Unless stated otherwise, course materials are not included in the course fee. An annual membership fee might be applicable and will be advised during the registration process.
The contractually binding fee is the fee stated on the website of Goethe-Institut Singapore.
Students in Standard Group Courses, who enroll for a second term in a row are entitled to a 10% “continuation discount” on the course fee. This discount is applicable only for registrations within the published registration periods. (see here) For registrations outside of the published registration period no continuation discount can be granted.
CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
Up to 15 working days* before the start of a course cancellations are fully refundable.
Between 14 and 10 working days* before the start of a course cancellations of standard courses are refundable, less an administrative fee of S$90. No refund can be granted on intensive and 4-week courses.
9 working days* or less before the start of a course or thereafter, no refund can be granted for any course.
Cancellations must be submitted in writing. The date of cancellation shall be the date of receipt at the Goethe-Institut Singapore.
Course fees cannot be transferred to another term or another person, be it in full or in part.
Course fees for partially missed courses cannot be pro-rated.
CHANGE OF COURSE LEVEL
Transfers to another course level can be considered after the first lesson only, once only and after consultation with the course teacher and the Language Office, subject to availability.
Please communicate with your teacher as early as possible, if you are unsure about your course choice and actively ask their guidance.
MAKE-UP LESSONS, ATTENDANCE AND PROMOTION
Once per course, students in standard group courses can attend one in-person make-up lesson in a parallel class of the same part-level only, subject to space and availability. Zoom attendance is not possible.
Students must arrange make-up lessons in advance via their teacher.
In case a make-up lesson is not possible for any reason, Goethe-Institut Singapore cannot be held liable, no refund/discount can be granted.
In order to qualify for an attendance certificate, students should attend a minimum of 70% of the course. Maximum one in-person make-up lesson and upto 30% Zoom participation can be counted towards attendance.
Promotion to the next language level (e.g. from A1 to A2) in all standard and intensive courses is assessment-based with a minimum passing grade of 60%, or in exceptional cases based on the teacher’s written recommendation. For more information and advice, please consult your teacher.

Our Adult Group Courses are designed for adult learners (age 16+).
Standard group courses require min. 10, max. 18 students.
Intensive group courses require min. 8, max. 14 students.
The Goethe-Institut Singapore reserves the right to cancel courses with less enrollments at any point until the start of the course and a full refund will be granted for made payments.
No classes are held on public holidays. For standard and intensive group courses replacement sessions are scheduled as per in-class arrangement. Course fees for missed lessons cannot be pro-rated.
Please note that other conditions apply for kids and teens courses, one-to-one and small group tuition, corporate courses and examinations. Please see further down.

The liability of the Goethe-Institut and its employees is limited to intent and gross negligence. The Goethe-Institut is also not liable for disruption to its services due to force majeure (e.g. natural disaster, fire, flood, war, official orders, and all other circumstances beyond the control of the contract parties).
When an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond the control of Goethe-Institut such as war, strike, riot, crime, epidemic or an event described by the legal term act of God (hurricane, flood, earthquake, volcanic eruption, etc.), we will offer course adjustments (e.g. room or class schedule).
