Ms. Brücker's snack bar once stood on Hamburg’s Grossneumarkt. She told everyone who wanted to hear that she had invented the currywurst shortly after the war. The narrator remembers this legend years later when the snack bar has long since disappeared. He tracks down the old lady in an old people's home. But instead of revealing her culinary secret, she begins to tell a story that goes back to the last days of the war in 1945.

Isabel Kreitz brings Uwe Timm's novel to life in drawings that are as exciting as they are atmospheric In 2012 she was awarded the Max and Moritz Prize for best German-language comics artist.
Uwe Timm (* 1940, Hamburg) is one of the most successful German writers. He has received many awards. His novels have been translated into over a dozen languages.
