Invade

Invade INVADE- is a collective of three queer black women namely, Queenzela Mokoena, Omphemetse Ramatlhatse, and Nyakallo Phamuli. They are a collective of artists and cultural workers that specialise in Riso printing, silkscreen printing, book design, and new forms of publications. INVADE- is fundamentally interested in the value of knowledge and power in different spaces. It supports the widespread sharing and making of new forms and streams of knowledge(s). In its publications, INVADE- creates and collects content around gender, sexuality, social cultures, power and positions in spaces, race, as well as the personal and public narratives embedded in the South African experience. The collective grows from the idea of ‘invading’ different spaces with a thought, words, and beckoning that may or may have not often touched those specific spaces – ones that might challenge or re-inspire existing thought channels, ‘decided’ truths, or ways of being in that space. The DE- is symbolic of the collective's underlying yet vital theme in their work. It suggests their ongoing agency as a collective - to democratise, decolonize and deconstruct ways of creating and ways of being. Simultaneously, the collective is aware that these new ways of being are not only informed by our histories but by our ongoing experiences that shape who we are today and what we want to become tomorrow. The collective carries an agency in continuing to form working spaces that are based on collaborative effort within the creative industry.
