The team in South Africa not only supports and advises people from South Africa. Its area of responsibility extends to Botswana, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.

    We answer your questions about everyday life, work, language and departure – online or at your local Goethe-Institut.
  • Information events
    Learn more about topics such as language certificates, recognition, health, the school system and visas. Ask questions and get an overview of other advisory services.
  • Workshops and trainings
    Strategies for learning and passing German language exams, development of intercultural competencies, as well as guidance and orientation support before departure and after arrival.

Personal consultation

We offer personalised advice online and appointments at the Goethe-Institut. Consultation topics include information about German everyday life and working culture, language proficiency and proof thereof and exit procedures when leaving the country.

On exam days and Tuesdays, you can also find us in person in the office with the red door at the Goethe-Institut Johannesburg.

Workshops

Intercultural workshops

Experiencing different cultures, may cause uncertainty and frustration at first. To live a fulfilling life in a foreign society, you need to build and maintain trust in the community. Certain societal rules and norms need to be considered which are often unclear and confusing. Our intercultural workshops address these cultural differences, promote self-awareness and provide you with essential skills to ensure a successful work and social life in Germany.

Teaching of learning and examination strategies, tutoring and speech training

Before leaving the country or to take up work in Germanyit is advisable to have a basic knowledge of the German language and in some cases, it is even mandatory. The exact level depends on the profession and requirements of the new German employer, or whether you are moving to your family or spouse in Germany.

We offer tutoring, exercises on learning and exam strategies as well as speech training in the form of workshops, group or individual appointments.

    Prove your German language skills with an official examination certificate. The Goethe-Institut examinations are internationally recognised.
