In the year 1996, women received formal recognition as equal citizens under the Constitution of South Africa. The reality of everyday life in South Africa doesn’t reflect this, despite the legislation with regard to the protection and promotion of women's rights.
Women have been identified as the key agent of sustainable development and their empowerment is seen as central to a more holistic approach towards establishing new patterns and processes of development that are sustainable.
Women in rural South Africa still experience and face discrimination & often seen as people of a lower social status who should not have the loudest voice. Practical interventions are needed to establish cohesive social forces and empower women and girls using storytelling and creative writing as a tool of empowerment and expression.
We will spend two weeks in Hamburg engaging women in creative writing workshops.
