Your Beauty is Worth Nothing is an Austrian feature film from 2012 that deals with the topic of migration and integration from the perspective of a twelve-year-old. At the same time, it is director Hüseyin Tabak's final project at the Vienna Film Academy.
Veysel has not been living in Vienna with his family for long. He goes to school in an integration class and hardly speaks German. The twelve-year-old boy of Turkish-Kurdish origin experiences his first great love in contemporary Vienna. At the same time, the boy has to watch his family break up under the circumstances (threatened with deportation, conflicts and loss of contact with the older, delinquent son, an unresolved father-son conflict and the sentimental glorification of the father's underground activities in Kurdistan). The speechlessness of the child of political refugees is overcome when the boy learns the poem Deine Schönheit ist nichts wert (Your Beauty Is Worth Nothing) - a work by his namesake Âşık Veysel - in German and recites it in front of the class to impress the girl Ana, who also has an immigrant background.
