Lilia Moritz Schwarcz

Lilia Moritz Schwarcz ist Professorin für Anthropologie an der Universität von São Paulo und Global Scholar in Princeton. Sie war Stipendiatin der Guggenheim-Stiftung (2006/ 2007) und Gastprofessorin in Oxford, Leiden, Brown, an der École des hautes études en sciences sociales und an der Columbia University.

Lilia Moritz Schwarcz veröffentlichte mehrere Bücher, wie Retrato em branco e negro (1987), O sol do Brasil (2008); Lima Barreto. Triste visionário (2017); darunter drei auf Englisch: Spectacle of Races (1999); The Emperors beard: D. Pedro II a tropical king (Farrar Strauss und Giroux, 2004), und Brazil: a biography mit Heloisa Starling (Companhia, 2016/ Penguin, Spanien 2016; Farrar Strauss und Giroux und Penguin UK, 2018). Lilia Moritz Schwarcz arbeitet auch als Herausgeberin von Sachbüchern bei Companhia das Letras.

Sie war Kuratorin einiger Ausstellungen wie  Nicolas-Antoine Taunay: a French translation of the tropics (2008), A history of Brazil an interpretation by photographs (mit Boris Kossoy, 2013), Mestizo Histories (mit Adriano Pedrosa, 2014), Childhood histories (MASP, 2016), Sexuality histories (Masp, 2018) und Afro-Atlantic histories (2018). Seit 2015 ist sie Ko-Kuratorin am MASP (Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo) und Kolumnistin der Zeitschrift Nexo.
