Hyperspace presents an algorave at Miscellania, bringing together international and local practitioners of live-coded sound and visuals.

Here, code is not simply a tool for making music. It is performed, written, altered and executed in real time, becoming part of the process through which rhythm, texture and image enmesh. Algorithms become instruments, while improvisation takes place through the continual negotiation between performer, machine, audience and code.

Across the program, pairs of live coders will work with sound and image to produce music that is never entirely predetermined. Patterns shift, systems break down, rhythms mutate and structures are rebuilt in response to the people and the atmosphere of the room.

Part concert, part club environment and part demonstration of computational performance, the algorave proposes a different relationship between code, bodies and dance, one in which the machinery of music-making is made visible and the algorithm itself becomes something to move with.

Artists

  • Nū is an Ethiopian-Australian sound artist, vocalist and live coder whose work blends non-Western musical traditions,  improvisation and Afrofuturism. Using the live coding program Sonic Pi, she creates immersive sonic worlds, weaving elements from ambient, jazz, R&B and electronic
    music.

She has performed at sold-out shows across Melbourne/Naarm, supported HTRK and Floodlights, and appeared at festivals including Arts House BLEED, A3 and Sander Music Festival.

In 2024, she toured Asia performing in Kuala Lumpur and at the International Conference for Live Coding in Shanghai. Following the release of her debut EP TECHNIFR0 -185 (via Highly Contagious Records), she embarked on an international tour across Sydney/Eora,
New York, London, Brighton, Berlin, and Hobart for Dark Mofo.

*Live coding is the real-time programming or manipulation of code to generate sound and/or visuals.

  • Alexandra Cárdenas, an artist from Bogota, Colombia, based in Berlin, Germany, seamlessly weaves composition, programming, and improvisation in her live coding practice, crafting experimental electronic music. Fueled by a fascination with the algorithmic behavior of music, her journey explores the boundless possibilities of musicality within code.

Fearlessly pushing boundaries, Alexandra invites audiences to probe the symbiotic relationship between technology and music. Her mission extends to fostering an inclusive world where technical and artistic education is accessible, cultivating a utopian landscape where code becomes a universal language of creative expression.

As a core global Live Coding and Algorave community member, Alexandra co-founded various TOPLAP nodes worldwide, including Toplap Mexico and Toplap Berlin. Teaching and performing worldwide with the free, libre, and open-source live coding languages SuperCollider and TidalCycles, she draws from a diverse educational background in composition, mathematics, and classical guitar studies, culminating in a Master’s Degree in Sound Studies and Sonic Arts at the Universität der Künste in Berlin.

Beyond her groundbreaking live coding contributions, Alexandra is deeply committed to empowering women in digital creativity. As a fervent advocate for gender diversity, she co-founded Livecodera, a transnational collective nurturing the skills of women-identifying live coders. Through impactful presentations and enthralling performances, she inspires women worldwide, encouraging them to harness the power of creativity and digital technologies, unlocking their potential and reshaping their environments.

  • Germany-based Flor de Fuego is a digital-craft artist who primarily works with programming and live coding to create performative experiences.

Her research explores concepts such as the body, space, code, and the chaos-cosmos. She has participated in several international festivals across Europe and the Americas, both individually and in collaboration with other artists.

Flor de Fuego is actively involved in the live coding community. She is also an active community collaborator for Hydra, a live coding browser-based software developed by Olivia Jack.

  • Cleary or Bernard Gray hails from the regional city of Griffith in NSW. He discovered the livecoding and Algorave scene by accident in late 2017, but it took a global pandemic for him to truly plunge down the rabbit hole.

Blending visual and audio art, algorithmic patterns, and pure improvisation, Bernard’s work sits at the intersection of code and the unexpected.

Since the world reopened, Bernard has led audio/visual workshops for creators of all ages, toured regionally with the boundary-pushing inFrequency.au collective alongside Scott Baker (Dron Skot), and performed at the Australian Computer-Human Interaction Conference (OzCHI).

Streaming as cleary, Bernard is the host of WeekEndJams (#wejcore)—a weekly global
livecoding jam running religiously since November 2020. An unplanned, highly experimental sandbox open to everyone, the jams have built an organic historical chronicle of livecoding culture and popular themes over the last 6 years.

  • M0xa is an active audio/visual performer from Jakarta, Indonesia, who emerged in late 2025. Beginning their coding journey as a spreadsheet engineer, they create live-coding performances that are deeply inspired by the textures of urbanscapes and abstract childhood memories, embracing both raw noise and soft granular sound that reflect two polar opposites.

  • Shara Francisco is a media artist, designer, and cultural worker whose practice explores the reciprocal patterns between human cognition and digital technology. She observes how the latter functions as both an extension of and a repository for the lived experience, responding to a human inclination to preserve personal memory and record traces of time’s passage.

Informed by her background on behavioral design, her practice explores cognitive processes and memory by digitally recreating episodic simulations across installations, generative moving images, and
live visuals. She approaches recollection as an active, reconstructive performance, one that unveils the fragmentary and associative nature of memory retrieval, and by extension, the construction of self.

Shara Francisco is based between Mandaluyong and Laguna, Philippines. She completed her BA in Multimedia Arts at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in 2022.

  • Inmintcondition is a Bangkok-based sound engineer and bedroom music producer. With a love for synthesis and genre-blending, she crafts textured soundscapes through both coding and hardware.

Her live-coded performances have featured at Diage Festival (TH), Cornea Cochlear Club (TH), BEAT FOREST (TH), SynapHome/Lab (TH), and Algorapture (ID).

  • d.dadut (Mel Huang Buntine) is a designer and technologist who has collaborated with institutions such as Powerhouse Museum, NGV, Art Gallery NSW, Science Gallery, Dark Mofo and The Australian Ballet.

Spanning works across data visualisation, interactive design and live performance, Mel is passionate about the creative applications of technology in the arts. She is the co-organiser of Creative Technology Melbourne, former lecturer at RMIT and The University of Melbourne and proud board member of Chamber Made.
