ANAESTHESIA OF THE HEART
From autumn 2025, Goethe-Institut Brussels will dedicate a transdisciplinary programme to humour as a form of cultural expression. Under the title "Anaesthesia of the Heart", the series explores artistic perspectives on humour in times of social tension.
CULTURE MOVES EUROPE: NEW CALL
The European Commission and the Goethe-Institut are continuing Europe’s largest mobility programme for artists and cultural professionals. The new call for individual mobility runs from 1 October 2025 to 30 April 2026. The programme aims to strengthen cultural exchange in Europe, promote cross-border collaboration, and build sustainable networks among artists and cultural professionals.
AUTUMN PROGRAM 2025
The Goethe-Institut Brussels' autumn program invites you to explore themes such as community, memory, and resistance. At Bozar, the Halaqat project presents new artistic perspectives from European and Arab countries, while at CINEMATEK, the comprehensive work of cult director Roland Klick can be seen in its entirety for the first time in Belgium.
WEEK FOR GERMAN
From 6 to 12 October 2025, the fourth Week for German will take place across Belgium. Together with numerous partners, a wide range of activities focusing on the German language will be organized.
The programme invites everyone to rediscover German as Belgium’s third national language.
GOETHE MEDAL 2025
On August 28, 2025, Turkish philanthropist Osman Kavala, Chinese linguist Li Yuan, and Belgian writer David Van Reybrouck will be awarded the Goethe Medal in Weimar by the President of the Goethe-Institut, Gesche Joost.
FRIENDS OF FORSYTHE
For the 30th anniversary of Kunstenfestivaldesarts, the Goethe-Institut brings choreography legend William Forsythe to Brussels on 30 April 2025.
CULTURE MOVES EUROPE CELEBRATION
On 3 April 2025, the European Commission and the Goethe-Institut celebrate three years of Culture Moves Europe at the Royal Flemish Theatre (KVS). The largest EU programme for cultural mobility, which supports 7,000 artists and cultural professionals from 40 countries.
HALAQAT
22 to 28 January 2025 - The Halaqat project promotes cultural exchange between Europe and Arab countries. In its new phase, it will provide space for cultural actors from both regions to
artistically reflect on topics of care.
THEATRUM MUNDI: AN ULRIKE OTTINGER RETROSPECTIVE
From 6 December 2024 to 28 February 2025, the Goethe-Institut Brussels and CINEMATEK will present a comprehensive retrospective of the feminist film icon Ulrike Ottinger.
30 YEARS OF EUROPANETZWERK DEUTSCH
On 14 November 2024, the anniversary celebration of the exclusive Europanetzwerk Deutsch scholarship programme, which promotes German as a working and procedural language in the EU institutions, took place.
AFTER REASON
A weekend of discussions, performances, workshops and readings took place from 17 to 19 October 2024 in response to Kant anniversaries and to highlight Sonja Lindfors' work “One Drop” in the context of capitalism, coloniality and imperialism.
