German language exams for schools

The Goethe-Institut has more than seventy years of experience in the teaching of German as a foreign language, in teacher training and in the development of curricula, examinations and teaching materials. Internal and external evaluations ensure the quality of the programme. The Goethe-Institut is a member of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE).

The German certificates of the Goethe-Institut

• are internationally recognised and highly respected
• document German language skills objectively and independently of school curricula and cultural background at all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
• stand for quality - the tests are carried out worldwide according to uniform standards
• promote motivation to learn because a clearly defined goal is set
• contain action-orientated and realistic examination tasks
• demonstrate performance in all skills: Reading, listening, writing and speaking
• are used as official proof of German language skills in numerous contexts, e.g. educational and professional mobility
• can replace internal school German exams

The Goethe-Institut Belgium endeavours to consider all examination requests and to offer examination dates. There is no guarantee that specific examination dates will be available.

Co-operation partners register their maximum of 21 examination participants for the examination dates listed below at the Goethe-Institut in Brussels.

Exam location (cooperation partners with at least 22 candidates and a ‘Goethe-Institut examination centre’ contract) arrange individual examination dates in consultation with the Goethe-Institut Belgium.

The registration deadline is the 1st of the previous month. 
A limited number of places are available per date.

REPETITION OF EXAM PARTS

Failed modules of examinations B1(j) and B2(j) can be repeated for a fee.
Examinations at other levels can only be repeated as a complete examination for a fee.

Exam dates are arranged in consultation with the Goethe-Institut Belgium. Dates are allocated according to availability. There is no entitlement to the guarantee of specific examination dates.

Each examin location can only register a minimum of 22 candidates together for one written and one oral examination date.

There is a maximum of 14 days between the written examination (reading, listening, writing) and the oral examination. The exams take place at the school.
