Making, watching, reporting on films: The students of Collège Maisonneuve will discover the world of film with all its facets during their Berlinale excursion. They are also looking forward to inspiration for their further work in their Canadian homeland.

It is our pleasure to introduce ourselves: We are a group of film students at Collège Maisonneuve and we deem ourselves lucky to be flying to Berlin on February 15!

We, that's fifteen young adults between the ages of 18 and 26. We will have the unique opportunity to participate in a ten-day excursion to Germany for the Berlinale. As bloggers we will write film reviews for the Goethe-Institut's blog and we will also have the opportunity to participate in various activities related to film and cinema. Everyone is definitely looking forward to Brandon Cronenberg's Infinity Pool and Matt Johnson's BlackBerry. As film-loving students who have already made short films as part of their studies, we can also try our hand at filmmaking ourselves, for example, as part of the KinoKabaret program.

This trip offers us unique opportunities: We will be part of one of the most important events in the international film business, get access to previews and meet established personalities from the industry. In addition, it will be a first encounter with German culture for the entire group. We will live in the heart of Berlin, just a few steps away from Potsdamer Platz and thus the center of the Berlinale.

But film and cinema are not the only things on the agenda of this trip: among other things, we will visit the Reichstag, the collection of contemporary art in the Boros Museum and the German Film Museum.  We will also explore Berlin street art on a guided tour.

We are very much looking forward to the new experiences and impressions. One thing is for sure: The trip will make us more cosmopolitan and inspire us for our future projects!

KinoKabaret

The Kino movement was founded in 1999 in Montréal by film students with the aim of regularly producing short films with simple means. The concept of KinoKabaret was born in 2001 as part of the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma. Whether established filmmakers or beginners: All are invited to make films spontaneously and to cooperate with each other. In the meantime, there are offshoots of the concept all over the world.
