Traditional patterns, forgotten pictures

Street artist Mateo was born in 1985 as Mathieu Boriers in France. After studying art in Toulouse, he moved to Montreal in 2008 to work as a graphic designer. He began a long journey through South America, where you can follow his path through his murals.

Back in Montreal, he decided to devote himself entirely to the arts. His practice has always developed between street and studio, largely influenced by the street art movement with a total freedom of material.

Meanwhile, his work decorates walls in France, Quebec, USA, Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Bolivia, Latvia....

Mateo questions the perception of the world around us and the impact of the traditional on our Western societies. His humanistic approach suggests being inspired by fundamental issues, bridging to our origins and a pleading for the revival of romanticism superseded by today's reality.

Traditional patterns, ornaments, travel literature, symbols, forgotten images are the raw material of a personal composition, a monologue of the soul in search of timeless knowledge.
