“Enthralling and gorgeously mounted. An unusually intelligent costume drama of bold personalities torn between the stirrings of the heart and the logic of the mind.” -  Variety

Beloved Sisters depicts the unconventional romance between two aristocratic sisters and a rebellious poet who took the European literary world by storm in the late eighteenth century.  As the German Enlightenment flourishes in Weimar, two sisters, Caroline von Beulwitz and Charlotte von Lengefeld both fall for writer Friedrich Schiller. Charlotte and Schiller marry so the lovers may pursue their ménage à trois under the guise of convention, but as Caroline reveals herself to be also a talented author, the trio's fragile equilibrium is threatened.

"A surprisingly brisk, absorbing film, shot and cut with the speed of a thriller.” -  New York Magazine

“Pushes heritage cinema in new, aesthetically bold directions. Beloved Sisters is the modern film about the German enlightenment...Graf has created nothing less than a romantic national epic. - Film Comment
