Next stop to our monthly film nights is to introduce film lovers and aspiring film makers to films by the renowned German director Andreas Dresen.

Andreas Dresen is a German film director known for his realistic and emotionally resonant films. Born in 1963 in Gera, East Germany (GDR), he began making amateur films in his youth. After graduating high school in 1982, he worked as a sound engineer at the Schwerin Theater and completed a traineeship at the DEFA Studio for Feature Films. From 1986 to 1991, he studied film directing at the Konrad Wolf Academy of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg.

Dresen's films often explore the lives of ordinary people in Germany, he is known for his ability to capture the subtleties of human interaction and the complexities of everyday life.

His works has earned him numerous awards, including the German Film Award and the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale). His debut movie "Stilles Land" (1995) earned him both the Hessen Film and Cinema Prize and the German Critics' Award. His breakthrough came with the episodic film "Nachtgestalten" (1999), which premiered at the Berlinale. In 2019, his film "Gundermann" won six Lolas at the Deutscher Filmpreis, including the Prize for Best Film. Most recently, in 2022, he was nominated for the Film Award in Gold for Best Direction for "Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush."
