Book Reading with Michael Afenfia

Nigerian writer, social commentator and public intellectual, Michael Afenfia will be reading from some of his books including When the Moon Caught Fire (2010), A Street Called Lonely (2011), Don’t Die on Wednesday (2014) and Paxoid (2015),  which he co-authored with his twelve year-old son.

Afenfia, who has a Law Degree from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology and an MBA from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife (both in Nigeria), has always been a passionate writer throughout his life.

Together with Ebizimo Koroye, he wrote the biography of Gboribiogha John Jonah, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Nigeria. His ongoing series, the Mechanics of Yenagoa, is published on his blog to a rousing reception on a week-by-week by basis. It tells the story of Ebinimi, a fascinating character around whom the plot’s intrigues largely evolve.

Currently a speechwriter to the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State in Nigeria, he worked in Nigeria’s presidency as senior special assistant on research and was a director at the Government-to-Business in Bayelsa State’s Due Process and e-Governance Bureau, having garnered cherished experience in Construction, Real Estate, Banking and Public Service.

Between 2014 and 2016, he served as Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors (Bayelsa State Chapter) and is presently a patron of Yenagoa Book Club, which is located in the same state. Writers Project of Ghana and the Goethe-Institut are organizing the event.
