Radio and Television of Montenegro (RTCG), the national public service broadcaster, has officially opened a new regional studio in Nikšić, marking a major step forward in its mission to decentralize media coverage and strengthen its presence across the country.

Public service broadcasters and media professionals from across the Western Balkan in Podgorica, Montenegro, attended a two-day training designed to strengthen audience engagement and enhance cross-border collaboration in journalism.

A joint delegation from the European Unionand the "Innovation.Media.Minds" (IMM)program, led by the Goethe-Institut, visited Radio-Television of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (RTVFBiH) to assess progress on an EU-funded innovation grant and explore new opportunities for collaboration aimed at strengthening public service journalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

From 17 to 22 March, media professionals from public service broadcasters across the Western Balkans took part in an intensive study visit to major European institutions and media houses in France and Germany. 
 

On 27 February 2025, a delegation from the European Union Office in Kosovo and the Goethe-Institut visited Kosovo’s public broadcaster RTK to witness firsthand the progress made under the EU-funded “Innovation. Media. Minds: Support to Public Service Journalism in the Western Balkans” program. The visit focused on RTK’s efforts to modernize its infrastructure and enhance content for youth and children.

Co-hosted with Macedonian Radio Television (MRT), the EU-funded Innovation. Media. Minds. Program held its First Semi-Annual Western Balkan Public Service Broadcasters’ Meeting from 24–26 February 2025 in Skopje, North Macedonia.
 

EU-funded Innovation. Media. Minds. Program, is holding a workshop for Bosnian national broadcaster BHRT on program promotion from 10 -14 February 2025 in Sarajevo, BiH.

The IMM Team, accompanied by Stéphanie Carette, Project Manager from the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia, and Dr. Christoph Veldhues, Director of the Goethe-Institut in Belgrade, visited the headquarters of Radio Television Vojvodina (RTV) in Novi Sad

“We are a great group of young people. We had good and fun times, shared many nice ideas, and built strong friendships. We’re constantly communicating, collaborating, and improving our projects. Regardless of the result, we now have 30 new friends, and that’s what matters most,” said Vedran Prodić, Editor-in-Chief of the Youth Program at BH Radio 1, ahead of the EU’s Innovation. Media. Minds. (IMM) Next Gen Media Expo held in Belgrade on November 1, 2024.
 

Young media professionals from seven public broadcasters across the Western Balkans, alongside university students, influencers, and colleagues from other media outlets and organizations, gathered in Tirana for the NextGen Media Lab (NML). This week-long event is part of the European Union’s (EU) Innovation. Media. Minds. (IMM) Program, which supports public service journalism in the Western Balkans.

In a significant move to advance public service journalism in the Western Balkans, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Director Generals of seven public service broadcasters, in partnership with the Goethe-Institut and DW Akademie.This milestone occurred during a two-day conference, co-organized by the Goethe-Institut and Montenegro’s public service media, Radio Televizija Crne Gore (RTCG), held on May 28 and 29, 2024
 

As part of the European Union (EU) Program “Innovation. Media. Minds.: Support to Public Service Journalism in Western Balkans” managed by the Goethe Institut on behalf of the European Commission and its implementing partner DW Akademie representatives from six Western Balkan public service media completed a week-long visit to DW News headquarters in Bonn and ZDF in Mainz from 14 – 19 April 2024.
