In 2015, The Goethe-Institut Hongkong, in cooperation with the partner library, Wu Yee Sun Library of the University of Macau, presents an exhibition called „Comics, Manga & Co. The new Culture of German Comics“ in the course of the annual library festival. Two generations of German comic illustrators, who are related to the development of the current comic culture, will be presented.

Just a few years ago, comics from Germany were little known abroad, now they are received with growing interest and are gaining particular recognition for their artistic diversity, distinctive imagery and unique narrative language. Conceived by Matthias Schneider, a Berliner curator, and comic experts, this exhibition presents the avant-garde that paved the way for the emergence of an independent culture of German comics, and a generation of younger comics artists whose work embraces new aesthetic and narrative aspects.
