Reading of Winter Solstice by Roland Schimmelpfennig at Play Reading Festival

On and On Theatre has established a crucial platform for introducing new plays in Hong Kong. Through translating and reading these international plays, artists and audience could study the aesthetics, creativity as well as various writing strategies. After Golden Dragon, On and On theatre translates Schimmelpfennig’s another play Winter Solstice, which is a response to the current rise of the right wing populism in Europe. Right before Christmas, a Pinterian-like stranger intrudes into an intellectual family. The play unfolds the destruction of this once perfect family in Germany. The translation of Winter Solstice into Cantonese has been commissioned by Goethe-Institut Hongkong. The staged reading is a premiere for Hongkong and China.
