Photographer/artist Johannes Bosgra's main inspiration is classical music. When he sees a landscape, he hears music in his head and vice versa; they flow into each other. This is called synesthesia. In this artist talk/workshop he reflects on his process of using synesthesia to create his minimalist photography and video works. And explains how to use music as inspiration for your own photography. His images of swarms of birds for example show the sublime musical rhythm of the dances they perform, emphasizing the essence of the flowing energy of the starlings. Bosgra will also show other examples of his combinations of music and photography, for example video works he created for composer Philip Glass.

Johannes Bosgra has been selected as FRESH EYES European Emerging Talent 2020 and GUP New Dutch Photography Talent 2020. Among his other awards are the Prix de la Photographie Paris, International Photography Awards, International Color Awards, Moscow International Foto Awards. Bosgra has exhibited and performed his works internationally, notably at Museum Voorlinden in Wassenaar (NL), New World Symphony Hall in Miami, Moscow Photocenter, concert hall De Doelen in Rotterdam, ACCI Gallery in Berkeley, Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam, Tonhalle in Düsseldorf.
