In our library you'll find German-language books, magazines, films, music, and games. A selection of titles in English translation offer those who do not read German the opportunity to inform themselves about literature, culture, society, politics and current events in Germany. Another core area of the collection are materials to learn German as a foreign language.

Lending Service

The library has a stock of around 40,000 printed and digital media, which we are constantly updating.

You will find:
  • Books on selected German-related topics in German, sometimes also in English or Indonesian
  • Materials for learning German
  • Current German magazines
  • Feature films and documentaries on DVD, some with English subtitles
We offer expanded inventories in our main topics:
  • German as a foreign language
  • Regional studies
  • Gaming
  • Film
Online catalog (OPAC) provides you with a detailed overview of our collection where you can search for specific media.

Residents of the Jabodetabek area can take advantage of our media lending service. You will need a valid library membership card to borrow media.

Language course students of the Goethe-Institut receive a complimentary free membership for the duration of their course upon presentation of the booking confirmation.

If you don’t have time to come in person to the library, you can still borrow media using Our Pickup Service.
Using the library catalog or the BibToGo app, you can conveniently select and order library media from your home and then collect them in person or via ojek. And around the clock! How? This information sheet tells you how: Feel free to contact us any time if you need help or have questions:

Books, objects, CDs and DVDs: 4 weeks
Magazines and board games: 2 weeks

Media can be returned any time in person at the library, at the Goethe-Institut security desk, or by using the Media Return Box in the parking lot. If you return media at the security desk or via the return box, please make sure that the media are well packed and protected.

If you already have library membership, you can log in to our digital library card BibToGo or online catalog (OPAC). The personalized use offers you the following advantages:  
  • Display of borrowed media including due date
  • Extension of the loan period of your media
  • Information about outstanding and paid fees
  • Purchase suggestions for the library’s media collections
  • Comments about media
  • Overview of the media you have borrowed in the past
The library team must first activate this service for use. Please talk to the library team on your next visit or contact us.

If the media you have borrowed are not pre-ordered by other users, you can extend the loan period twice. Exceptions: board games, magazines and exam preparation materials (call number 438.3) can be extended only once.
