What is the Studienbrücke?

Studienbrücke is an excellence programme that offers school children and school-leavers with above-average grades in maths, computer science, natural sciences and technology (STEM subjects) and a command of German (subject-specific) language and academic training in their home country in preparation for a course of study in Germany.

Programme

The programme is modular in design and follows a set learning progression. It encompasses the following modules, which prospective students complete in their home countries and are designed to give them linguistic and subject-matter-specific preparation for studying in Germany:
 
  1. Language courses
    At the Goethe-Institut, at a language learning centre or as a Goethe-Institut online language course
  2. TestDaF preparatory course
    Familiarization with the individual test sections (reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression, oral expression)
  3. Technical language preparation in the STEM subjects (online)
    Mathematics, IT, chemistry, physics, biology, technology (engineering)
  4. TestAS format training (online)
    Familiarization with content and typical questions in the TestAS (scholastic aptitude test)
  5. TestDaF and TestAS exams
    TestDaF and TestAS
  6. Intercultural training
    Familiarization with the German higher education system and intercultural sensitization
  7. Academic guidance counselling
    Supported by the DAAD
Attending preparatory STEM Academies in Germany or your home country is another (optional) part of the preparation. Please contact the Goethe-Institut in your home country for further information.
After successfully completing our programme, Studienbrücke graduates can immediately embark on a degree in STEM subjects or economics at our renowned partner universities, which make a certain number of places available for them each year. 

With the introduction of the alternative university entrance qualification, prospective students can now start studying as soon as they have passed a scholastic aptitude test (TestAS). To qualify for this, they must attend the preparatory Studienbrücke course in their home country. This means:
  • completing the preparatory modules in the Studienbrücke programme
  • passing TestDaF with 4 x 4 points in the test levels, or a total of 16 points (depending on the university)
  • passing TestAS with a minimum of 100 points

Conditions

Conditions for taking part in the current Studienbrücke programme are as follows:
  • pupils of the 9th to 11th grade
  • proof of the required language proficiency level (see question 5)
  • high level of motivation to study in Germany, as demonstrated by motivation letter, participation in competitions at school and elsewhere, regional and international projects in the STEM subjects
  • above-average school marks in the STEM subjects
  • written consent from parent/legal guardian
