What is the Studienbrücke?

Studienbrücke is an excellence programme that offers school children and school-leavers with above-average grades in maths, computer science, natural sciences and technology (STEM subjects) and a command of German (subject-specific) language and academic training in their home country in preparation for a course of study in Germany.

Programme

The programme is modular in design and follows a set learning progression. It encompasses the following modules, which prospective students complete in their home countries and are designed to give them linguistic and subject-matter-specific preparation for studying in Germany:
 

Module A: How to learn online 
You will familarize yourself with the online platform and get to know your fellow students from around the world.
We will test your German proficiency and offer extra practice materials for TestAS and TestDAF.

Module B: STEM-subject specific training
Otherwise known as “Fachmodultraining”, it educates you on terminologies used in different STEM-related subjects in German. It is a preparation of the TestAS format training that test subject mastery.

Module C: TestAS format training
This aptitude test for international applicants helps you assess whether your abilities and skills are suitable for studying in Germany. It also helps German universities make fair, objective and accurate decisions in their admission and selection procedures.

Module D: TestDAF exam training
The Test of German as a Foreign Language is recognised by select universities in Germany for some degree programmes. It prepares you linguistically, enabling you to work on communicative tasks that they will also have to master during their studies.

Module E: Introduction to scientific writing
This introductory course familiarizes you with the fundamentals of research and academic writing. It helps you develop skills needed to structure, write, and present academic work effectively.

Module F: Fit für Studium in Deutschland
This is a short course to understand the education system and the introduction to the German higher education system in Germany.

After successfully completing our programme, Studienbrücke graduates can immediately embark on a degree in STEM subjects or economics at our renowned partner universities, which make a certain number of places available for them each year. 

With the introduction of the alternative university entrance qualification, prospective students can now start studying as soon as they have passed a scholastic aptitude test (TestAS). To qualify for this, they must attend the preparatory Studienbrücke course in their home country. This means:

  • completing the preparatory modules in the Studienbrücke programme
  • passing TestDaF with 4 x 4 points in the test levels, or a total of 16 points (depending on the university)
  • passing TestAS with a minimum of 100 points

Conditions

Conditions for taking part in the current Studienbrücke programme are as follows:
  • pupils of the 9th to 11th grade
  • proof of the required language proficiency level (see question 5)
  • high level of motivation to study in Germany, as demonstrated by motivation letter, participation in competitions at school and elsewhere, regional and international projects in the STEM subjects
  • above-average school marks in the STEM subjects
  • written consent from parent/legal guardian
