Visual artist and storyteller Shenuka Corea will lead a session in creating pictures through slow stitching, drawing inspiration from the artworks in the 'Empowerment' exhibition. The activity will prompt discussions about the intersections of art and craft, the role of craft in storytelling and in women's empowerment and activism. 

Shenuka will go over some basic embroidery and applique techniques. All levels of stitching and embroidery experience including beginners are welcome! Materials will be provided.

She incorporates fiber arts into her practice in the forms of embroidery and crochet. Shenuka's practice focuses on character driven storytelling, drawing inspiration from the environment, history, fantasy and imagination.










This event is part of the public programme of Empowerment: Art and Feminisms, a South Asian multidisciplinary travelling exhibition on view at JDA Perera Gallery from 4–11 August 2025. Featuring works by 31 feminist artists and collectives, the exhibition explores themes of gender, identity, care, resistance, and inclusion across South Asia. Empowerment is curated by Andreas Beitin, Katharina Koch, and Uta Ruhkamp, and co-produced by Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg and Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan Mumbai.
