ABOUT THE PROJECT

Lyhne‘s works employ various art historical references and thus formally resists a clear classification. Committed both to the craft of making and a conceptual framework, she includes different materials and methodologies, from hand-crafting to the employment of readymades. The work engages with reproduction, but at a level that exposes its labour, craft and the worker’s hand. A handmade sensibility substitutes industrial reproducibility, to observe and deconstruct our relationship to consumer culture and desire. Flirting with the symbolic power of things while adopting formally and visually disparate registers taken from art history and design, the work seduces, impregnated with potential narratives.

Line Lyhne travelled extensively to many states in both Peninsular and East Malaysia. She visited various spaces and engaged with local artists during her travels. To close her residency, she shared her journey and experiences in an artist talk held at Lostgens’ on 12 October 2024.
