Colour of the Ocean
Director: Maggie Peren, colour, 91 min., 2010
Disaster in a holiday paradise: the German tourist Nathalie witnesses a tragedy involving refugees on the Canary Islands. A boat full of Africans is stranded. Among the survivors, she spots a man with his little son. Nathalie wants to help; a police officer sends her away; his work has made him unmerciful. But the refugee Zola and little Mamadou establish contact with the German. She decides to help these people in need – against the wishes of her husband. But the money she wants to use to help the Africans flee to the mainland leads to a catastrophe that Nathalie was unable to foresee. COLOUR OF THE OCEAN is a cutting-edge film about Europe’s humanitarian and political problems in dealing with the African immigration flow.
