The Goethe-Institut in your country will evaluate your application. If it approves your application it will send its recommendation to the headquarters of the Goethe-Institut in Munich. There a committee will decide on the sum to be granted.
The committee meets four times a year as follows:
- Beginning of February: application deadline: 1 December
- End of April: application deadline: 15 March
- End of July: application deadline: 15 June
- Beginning of November: application deadline: 15 September
Applications for non-fiction and academic works will be only be considered in the April and November committee meetings.
For academic works, an expert evaluation must be obtained from the “Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft” (German research organisation). Due to this process, it may take an additional three to six months to reach a decision.

The eLibrary of the Goethe-Institut enables the lending of digital media such as eBooks, eAudios and ePapers. At our eLibrary users can borrow media 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by simply pressing a button. Currently, there are around 25,000 media available at our eLibrary. We offer this service only at the Goethe-Instituts abroad.
At present, a few German books in English translation are available for loan in the eLibrary. We would like to expand this offer to other titles and languages and offer interested publishers abroad further information.
