Open Call for Artists, Curators, Art Practitioners
Reflekt Residency

Reflekt Residency © Goethe-Institut

Goethe-Institut Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines together with SAVVY Contemporary, TanzFaktur, and Leipzig International Art Programme are looking for two-month residency applications in visual art and performing art.

As Germany’s international cultural institute, Goethe-Institut promotes cultural collaboration worldwide, encourages intercultural dialogue, and enables cultural involvement. Focusing on shared artistic production, reception and reflection, the Goethe-Institut Southeast Asia initiates and co-organises this residency platform to connect, to exchange ideas, to collect impulses, to work in a new cultural context, and to draw on a variety of new inspirations.

The REFLEKT residency programme encourages the artists/curators/art practitioners in residence to expand their research, develop a concept/prototype, build a project, or create an artwork together with the hosting organisations and local communities. Ideally, after completing the residency, the residents would continue their work and present them in their city of origin with the local Goethe-Institut as a host.

For the first edition, we offer five slots in total for artists, curators, and art practitioners to work and engage with their respective art scene and public in Germany for two months with the following preferred hosts:

  • SAVVY Contemporary (Berlin) | 01.11.–31.12.2023
  • TanzFaktur (Cologne) | 01.11.–31.12.2023
  • Leipzig International Art Programme (Leipzig) | 01.12.2023–31.01.2024

The Goethe-Institut will cover the costs for airfare to Germany (return ticket in economy class), visa and travel expenses for a visa appointment, travel insurance, as well as accommodation during the residency. Artists will receive a lump-sum fee and daily allowance of € 2.000 for the whole residency and a subsidy for production/research.

If this residency aligns with your interests and career trajectory, we invite you to complete the application form below in English.

Please note that students are not eligible to apply.

The application deadline is 31 July 2023. All applications will undergo evaluation by the respective hosts, independent juries, and the staff of the Goethe-Institut in their respective countries. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an online interview to be conducted in in August/September 2023.
