Directed by multi-awarded German-Turkish filmmaker Fatih Akin, Solino revolves around the Romano Amato, his wife Rosa and their two sons Giancarlo and Gigi, an Italian family that emigrates from Solino, Italy to Duisburg in the Ruhr area of Germany in the 1960s. They establish the first Pizza restaurant in town. Their business flourished well and both children get used to Germany. 10 years later, the brothers fall in love with the same woman; they break ties with each other in anger and Gigi returns to Solino with his mother. A decade later, the two brothers reconnect and try to make sense of what happened between them.

Greek restaurateur Zinos (Adam Bousdoukos) can't seem to get a break. The girl he loves moves to China, so he decides to leave his beloved diner in the hands of his brother, Ilias (Moritz Bleibtreu), who quickly gets in over his head. When the heartbroken Zinos returns, his neighborhood "soul kitchen" has been taken over by the mob and is in debt. He decides to re-open with a hotshot chef, but will his loyal clientele -- used to bad food and good company -- ever return?

Why do we throw away so much food? And how can we stop this kind of waste? Amazing but true: On the way from the farm to the dining-room table, more than half the food ends up in the dump. Most of them before ever reaching any consumer.
This documentary by Valentin Thurn thrusts this issue under the limelight and explores what it – or what is not – being done to prevent it.
Admission to all the screenings is free and open to all. The films will be screened in German with English subtitles.
