Featured films:
Abdullah
From the series: Grenzenlos - Geschichten von Freiheit und Freundschaft (Beyond Borders - Stories of Freedom & Friendship)
Director: Khaled Nawal
Duration: 10 mins
Genre: Social Drama
Year: 2018
This film is a part of a German initiative involving multiple short films by a collective of directors. The series focuses on themes related to migration, human rights, displacement and identity. Each addresses a different facet of existence without a home or family, without friends or toys, and supposedly, without a future.
Aschenputtel (Cinderella)
Director: Lotte Reiniger
Duration: 13 mins
Genre: Fantasy, Animation
Year: 1922
Lotte Reiniger's interpretation of Grimm's recorded version of Aschenputtel (Cinderella) from 1922.
Wie sich das Kino rächt (How Cinema Takes Its Revenge)
Director: Gustav Trautschold
Duration: 18 mins
Genre: Comedy
Year: 1912
Wie sich das Kino rächt tells the story of a notorious film censor who has long frustrated filmmakers with his strict moral standards. In a bid to expose his hypocrisy, a group of directors devises a cinematic trap: they enlist a young actress to lure him into compromising behavior, all captured by a hidden camera.
The screening will be accompanied by a live score from ma.ma, a sound and performance duo composed of Joee Mejias and Alyana Cabral. Rooted in the concept of the “producer-procreatrix” or primitive maternity, ma.ma explores spirit and electricity through immersive visual and sonic experiences.
Join us for an evening that bridges past and present through silent cinema and live performance!
