Author

Playwright, director, and leader of the Seinendan Theater Company in Tokyo since 1983. After 2000, he began to work worldwide. He wrote the libretto and directed the opera “Stilles Meer” composed by Toshio Hosokawa which was premiered 2016 at the Hamburg State Opera. Hirata has a professorship at several universities in Japan, is board member of various theatre organizations, and advisor for cultural policies for local organizations.
