Yefim Bronfman, piano
Wilhelm Stenhammar
Symphony No. 2 in G minor, op. 34
In July 2017 Herbert Blomstedt, the doyen among the great conductors, celebrated his 90th birthday, and he is still internationally active - here as a guest of the Berliner Philharmoniker, with whom he enjoys a close musical partnership. The latter also applies to Yefim Bronfman, who most recently performed Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto in the Philharmonic Concertos. Now the American pianist will dedicate himself to the B flat major Concerto op. 19, which Beethoven wrote for himself.
After the intermission, the rarely performed Second Symphony by Wilhelm Stenhammar, who studied in Berlin and dedicated his concert overture Excelsior! 1896 to the Berliner Philharmoniker, is on the program.
