Writer-Director:
Sylke Enders, Germany, 2014, 102 min. German with English Subtitles. Cast: Julia Jendroßek, Daniel Sträße, Ramona Kunze-Libnow, Uwe Preuss,  Jani Volanen, Kyra Sophia Kahre, Andrea Hintermaier, Yung Ngo, Judith Engel, Horst-Günter Marx.

For 18-year-old Cindy, life in the Berlin suburb of Schönefeld isn’t easy. Introverted and slightly overweight, she lives with her parents in the shadow of a massive construction site that is supposed to become Berlin’s newest airport. But, much like the slow-moving progress at the airport, Cindy’s life is at a stand-still. Failing to fit in with the clique-ish girls at school, Cindy’s only real friends are her dog Werner, and her fatalistic neighbor Danny, who has stuck by her since their childhood. When Danny leaves for Afghanistan, Cindy is left to fend for herself.

What at first seems like hopeless isolation for Cindy becomes an unforeseen opportunity. When she meets meets Leif, the Finnish engineer working at the Airport site, Cindy seizes the chance to break out of her shell and seize life in a way no one expected.  Enders’ film is an endearing, tragically comic coming-of-age story.
