At the September German Book Club meeting we will discuss Juli Zeh's Adler und Engel (Schöffling, 2001, €11,00 ISBN: 9783442729265).

The genres of romance, crime, coming-of-age, and political thriller have been fused together in this rousing novel by Juli Zeh, one of the most phenomenally talented German literary authors. For this critically-acclaimed book, in which a human rights expert named Max hits rock bottom after his girlfriend's suicide, Zeh received the German Book Prize, the Rauriser Literary Prize, and the Literary Prize of the city of Bremen. Zeh's style is laconic yet also lyrical as she tells the story of the fate of a romance that gets caught in a web of politics and profit.
