The Goethe-Institut New York is pleased to present Other Forms of Love, a musical performance and poetry reading featuring acclaimed American poet Roger Reeves and the NYU Skirball String Quartet.

Roger Reeves is the author of ''Other Forms of Love,'' a new poetry cycle commissioned by the Goethe-Institut New York Library. These poems take their inspiration from the Black Lives Matter movement and Joseph Haydn’s musical work The Seven Last Words of Christ. This multimedia realization of Haydn’s work, performed in its version for string quartet, brings together music and spoken word, as well as past and present, in a provocative new synthesis. 

Roger Reeves’s poems have appeared in the American Poetry Review, The Best American Poetry 2014, Boston Review, the New Yorker, Ploughshares, Poetry, and Tin House, among other publications. He is an associate professor of English and creative writing at the University of Texas at Austin and is currently the Suzanne Young Murray Fellow in Fiction and Poetry at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute. 

Reeves earned his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. He was awarded a 2015 Whiting Award, two Pushcart Prizes, a Hodder Fellowship from Princeton University, a 2013 National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship, and a 2008 Ruth Lilly Fellowship from the Poetry Foundation. His first book, King Me (Copper Canyon Press, 2013), won the Levis Reading Prize from Virginia Commonwealth University, the John C. Zacharis First Book Award from Ploughshares, and a PEN Oakland Josephine Miles Book Award. His second book of poems, Best Barbarian (W.W. Norton, 2022), is forthcoming.
