Alongside live readings and an illustrated discussion on the aesthetics of war and conflict, artist duo Pauline Boudry / Renate Lorenz present a unique compilation of their latest moving-image installation works, including I Want (2015), a double-channel video installation that features artist Sharon Hayes performing the voices of punk poet Kathy Acker, imprisoned activist Chelsea Manning, First Lady Jackie Onassis, and abducted heiress-turned-political-revolutionary Patty Hearst. Switching between political biographies, I Want questions whether the channeling of identities both past and present might reveal a slippery composite self—one resistant to pathologization and less susceptible to social control.

This event is presented as part of a year-long series of major presentations by Boudry / Lorenz in the US, co-curated by Alhena Katsof in collaboration with the Walker Art Center, the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Participant Inc., and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH).
