Wim Wenders is one of the most famous German filmmaker, born in Düsseldorf in 1945. He won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for his drama "The State of Things" in 1982 and the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival for his drama "Paris, Texas" in 1984.

Furthermore he has been nominated for the Academy Awards three times, for his documentaries "Buena Vista Social Club" about Cuban music, "Pina" about the German contemporary dance choreographer Pina Bausch, and "The Salt of the Earth", a documentary about the Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado.

The BAMPFA's series WIM WENDERS - PORTRAITS ALONG THE ROAD shows the recently digitally restored films from Wim Wenders' early creative period including his winner films from Cannes and Venice.
