2018 marks the 75th Anniversary of the execution of 21-year-old German student Sophie Scholl. To commemorate the life of this young activist, the Goethe-Institut San Francisco shows Marc Rothemund's Sophie Scholl - The Final Days.

2005 Academy Award® nominee for Best Foreign Language Film.

About the film: "February 1943: The young Sophie Scholl and her brother Hans get arrested by a leaflet action against the Nazi-dictatorship at the University of Munich. After days of interrogations from the Gestapo she has been condemned to death and killed by the Peoples Court. 'Sophie Scholl - The Final Days', directed by Michael Rothemund is after Michael Verhoeven's 'The White Rose' and Percy Adlon's 'Five Last Days' (both 1982). It is already the third modern German film, starring the 21-year-old student. The notable difference to the previous: Rothemund and his author Breinersdorfer had the chance to resort to documents that were not provided back in the1980s, such as original protocols of the Gestapo interrogations, which were in the DDR archives for decades and only accessible after the political shift in 1990."
