The Goethe-Institut is excited to kick off the new ‘Jazz@Goethe’ concert series with drummer Angel Bethea on Sunday 11/20, beginning at 2:00pm. This series continues in the spirit of the DC Public Library’s ‘Jazz in the Basement’ series, which the Goethe-Institut co-hosted for several years in its previous location on K street. We are very happy to revive the tradition of bringing jazz to the historic U street corridor, where jazz greats such as Duke Ellington once thrived!

Born and raised in Washington, DC, Angel Bethea is a graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, where she studied to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a minor in Jazz Studies & Arts Management. She has been seen playing drums and percussion at various venues in the DMV area, such as the Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, Strathmore, Mr. Henry’s, and others. She has been heard all around with groups such as the Amy K. Bormet trio, who recently toured the island of St. Croix in the Virgin Islands. Bethea is also passionate about helping non-profit arts organizations like "The Washington Jazz Arts Institute," located in DC, as a drum instructor and mentor to the young students in training.
