Newsletter, Web & Social Media Manager

The German Film Office (GFO) is currently seeking a qualified candidate to join our team in a freelance, part-time capacity beginning in May 2026.
 
Employment scope: Approximately 40 hours per month, with additional hours required during peak periods or special projects
Location: Flexible, remote work schedule with regular in-person commitments in New York
Start date: May 2026

The German Film Office is an initiative of the Goethe-Institut and German Films. Based in New York, we collaborate with local partners to bring the best of contemporary and repertory films from Germany to U.S. audiences. Learn more at germanfilmoffice.us.

Responsibilities

Newsletter & Web

  • Research and compile content (events, film news, images) for the monthly newsletter, including GFO and Goethe-Institut programming, partner events, and relevant industry updates
  • Create and distribute the monthly newsletter using Mailchimp
  • Prepare and update web pages
  • Create and manage Eventbrite listings for GFO events in New York
  • Participate in editorial planning meetings
Social Media & Digital Outreach
  • Manage and regularly update GFO social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Letterboxd, YouTube)
  • Develop and implement social media strategies to grow and diversify audiences
  • Create and schedule posts (including photos, reels, trailers, stories, and event promotions)
  • Plan and execute campaigns, including paid ads and boosted posts
  • Engage with followers by responding to comments and messages
  • Track and report monthly performance metrics

Qualifications

  • College degree (BA)
  • Professional experience with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook) and tools (Hootsuite, Meta Business)
  • Experience with Mailchimp and Eventbrite
  • Familiarity with Letterboxd and YouTube content management
  • Excellent writing and editorial skills
  • Strong photo editing and basic video/reel creation skills
  • Knowledge of international film (familiarity with German cinema preferred)
  • Experience working with arts or film organizations
  • Native or near-native fluency in English; German language skills a plus
  • Based in the New York area, with availability for occasional in-person meetings and events

What We Offer

  • Flexible, remote work schedule with regular in-person commitments in New York
  • Compensation: $2,000–$2,500 per month, commensurate with experience and scope of work
