“Outer Space – Comets of Choral Music” explores humanity’s fascination with the heavens, with light, stars, and darkness—with everything that lies beyond our planet. From humanity’s earthly perspective, the question arises: How can the vastness of the universe and the celestial bodies be experienced through sound?
The musical answers to this question are diverse: Johann Sebastian Bach celebrates the divine order in heavenly hymns of praise through radiant polyphony. Heinrich Schütz sings of the Christian hope for life after death. Robert Schumann turns his gaze inward, making the firmament a mirror of his own soul. And Gustav Mahler transcends the boundary between the world and eternity.
“Outer Space – Comets of Choral Music” brings together works that shine in their own unique way. The program connects humanity’s earthly gaze toward the heavens with the sonic spheres of the cosmos.
