Mongolian jazz singer and songwriter Enji possesses a voice unlike any other.
Recognised early as a dexterous, beguiling vocalist, Enji grew up in Ulaanbaatar before making a home in Munich, Germany, where she fell in love with jazz.

She has wowed international audiences with a sound that combines the Mongolian urtiin duu (“long song”) tradition with acoustic jazz improvisation. Across an already rich career, Enji has released four studio albums, including 2023’s Ulaan and 2025’s Sonor, both via experimental Munich-based label Squama.

Enji’s performances have an understated, immersive power that’s grounded in her otherworldly vocalising. As she told the Guardian, “Jazz, long song, Mongolia or Germany, I don’t know where I’ll end up – but I know I won’t stop singing.”

This performance is presented by Sydney Festival at ACO On The Pier, with support from the Goethe-Institut.
