The organic goods that are baked daily in the bakery’s brick oven are offered in many verities. In addition to whole meal bread, you can find Alaskan stone oven bread, ciabatta and baguette and the traditional crumb cake or even a Linzer cake.

The Alpine Bakery is owned by Walter and Silvia Streit since 2016. Having experienced the Yukon as tourists for 15 years, these two had fallen in love with the wonderful landscapes and the capital, Whitehorse. When they heard that Suat Tuzlak, the founder of the organic bakery was retiring, it was clear to them: they simply could not let this opportunity pass by. Here they hoped to fulfill their dream of a life where the preservation of traditions handed down from generation to generation would continue to play a role in the cultivation of food.

Silvia and Walter both come from a small town in Bavaria. In Germany, Silvia worked in several bakeries specializing in organic baked goods, gaining experience in the organic bread and cake industry. Walter worked as an engineer and had been particularly committed to projects on sustainable infrastructure. It was clear for both of them that they could keep this bakery running as an attraction in Whitehorse.
And they succeeded. The log cabin building in the Alexander Street invites you to linger. In winter, the stone oven is a welcome source of heat, especially when temperatures reach minus 40 degrees, adding to the cozy atmosphere in the café. Here you can have breakfast, enjoy a latte macchiato or cappuccino, read “Der Spiegel” and at lunchtime take advantage of daily changing lunches. In summer, it is especially nice to enjoy rhubarb cake with friends in the garden among flowers and herbs. The Alpine Bakery is actually a popular meeting place for Yukoners and tourists alike. It's worth a visit!
