Come and discuss the European book of the month! We're looking forward to seeing you!

Our European Book club meets regularly to discuss a contemporary novel from one of our literatures (Austrian, Catalan, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish, with the occasional guest literatures). The novels chosen are available as French (or English) translations, and the discussion takes place in French.

For up-to-date information on chosen works, please check this website regularly, or on our Facebook page!

We inform you in advance of the books to be read for the next book clubs. They are available at our partner bookstores (the Librairie Gallimard de Montréal and the Librairie du Square).

All the information regarding the location, moderation of the evening, etc., is communicated a few weeks before each book club meeting.

Our last book club of the season will feature a Ukrainian novel and will take place Saturday June 10 at 3:30 pm at the Goethe-Institut Montreal. It is organized in collaboration with the Ukrainian Club Montreal.

The book chosen for this session is "Grey Bees", by Andrey Kurkov (translated by Boris Dralyuk). The discussion will be held in French and moderated by Olha Holovko, of the Ukrainian Club Montreal.

In order for you to take advantage of this offer, we provide “Lisez l’Europe” membership cards, valid from September 2022 to June 2023. These cards are offered free of charge. You must present this card to the Librairie Gallimard de Montréal in order to receive the discount on the book.

People who would like to obtain a card can must send a request to:

We will email you when your card is ready. Once ready, the cards can be picked up at the Goethe-Institut Montréal (opening hours), located at 1626 boul. St-Laurent, Suite 100. If you can’t pick up your card at the Goethe-Institut, we will give it to you at your next attendance to one of our activities.
