The Hunger Years - In a Land of Plenty

Hungerjahre - In einem reichen Land
Germany (BRD), 1980, 114 min.
Director: Jutta Brückner
With: Britta Pohland, Sylvia Ulrich, Claus Jurichs, Heidi Joschko

The autobiographically tinged film tells the story of 13-year-old Ursula Scheuner, who grows up as an only child in a petit-bourgeois family during the Adenauer era. Puberty brings the girl increasingly into conflict with her parents and her surroundings as she begins to doubt the ideal world of adults. With her questions about sexuality and politics, however, she only reaps ignorant silence.

Please note:
This film includes references to eating disorders and sexual assault.
