“Observant little jewel.” -- Screen International
“A portrait of remarkable depth.” – Variety
It's Lara's 60th birthday, and she has every reason to celebrate: This evening, her son Viktor will be giving the most important piano concert of his career. Lara was, after all, the one who has mapped out and driven his musical career. Yet Viktor has been unreachable for weeks and nothing indicates that Lara will be welcome at his debut performance. Taking matters into her own hands, she buys up all remaining tickets and hands them out to everyone she meets. The more Lara strives to make the evening successful, however, the more events get out of control. An intimate drama about lost dreams, the love of music, and a special mother-son relationship.
Gerster's sophomore feature, encouraged by Michael Haneke after the global success of Oh Boy, brings together an impressive cast and crew. Award-winning cinematographer Frank Griebe (Babylon Berlin, Perfume) is responsible for the stark and captivating camera work. The award-winning music for the film was composed by Arash Safaian and recorded by German-Japanese star pianist Alice Sara Ott.
