10th European Day of Languages

Lisez l’Europe and the Centre de langues de l‘Université de Montréal invite you to celebrate the 10th edition of the European Day of Languages. This time in a face-to-face event!

Join a festive happy hour with free mini-courses at UdeM, followed by a musical performance at the Maison de la culture de Côte-des-Neiges and the famous interactive language quiz that will allow you to win several prizes.

When you register, please help us choose the languages you would like to see or review among the offerings for this 10th edition and beyond. Here is the list of languages that have already been the subject of mini-courses between 2013 and 2021 and that could be back on September 23: Arabic, Aragonese, Basque, Catalan (including the Algiers variant), Franco-Provencal, German, Italian, Japanese, lsq, Mandarin, Occitan (including the Aranese variant), Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Sardinian and Swedish.

Léa and her Troupe de Babel

Mirjana Milovanovic, Kristin Molnar, Lavanya Narasiah, Dominique Soulard and Léa Touzé bring us to a linguistic and musical encounter of several cultural communities present in Montreal. They will sing in Catalan, Spanish, Hungarian, French, Romani (from the Balkans), Serbo-Croatian and Telugu (a Dravidian language from southern India). This multilingual and intercultural show will take place at the Maison de la culture de Côte-des-Neiges on Friday, September 23 at 7:30 pm. Reserve your tickets at the same time as you register for the mini-language courses at UdeM. 

At the initiative of the Council of Europe, the European Day of Languages has been celebrated on September 26 every year since 2001. In Montreal, it has been celebrated since 2013. This day reminds us of the many benefits of language learning, especially in terms of continuing to develop cognitive skills, breaking down cultural barriers and opening the door to new friendships and professional opportunities.
