At the end of the 1950s, Alberto, a young highschool teacher, is placed in Evora, with the intention of starting his career as a writer. He is seduced by Sofia, one of the three daughters of a city doctor. In his courses, Alberto puts his existential essays into practice and thus captivates one of his students, Carolino. When Sofia falls under Carolino’s spell, Alberto succumbs to the passionate turmoil and extremism of his convictions. An adaptation of Vergílio Ferreira’s eponymous novel, a seminal work of Portuguese literature from the 20th century.
