For almost five decades Toni Krahl has been the frontman of the band CITY in the limelight of the German rock scene. Not only in Germany, even in Greece CITY was honoured with a golden record - and the success doesn't stop: With their current album Das Blut so laut they reached top chart positions and toured Germany in the last two years.
Krahl has now recorded his personal experiences and those of the band in his book Toni Krahls Rocklegenden (German: Toni Krahl's Rock Legends)
Krahl, who always moved between the systems of the DDR and the "old" BRD as a border crosser and finally worked as an entrepreneur and musician in the united Germany, takes special perspectives. He talks about unforgettable appearances, of freedoms and absurd borders, of legendary fellow musicians and also of those who "got lost" in the West. Especially in this year, 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, his experiences are highly interesting.
While he talks to presenter Kai Suttner about anecdotes from CITY's 45 years of existence, Krahl will also repeatedly pick up the guitar. Musically he will be supported by his band colleague and violinist Don Joro Gogow.
Toni Krahl was born in Berlin in 1949. He lived with his parents in Moscow for a time and then attended school in Berlin, which he had to leave when he protested against the invasion of Prague in 1968. After his release from prison, he was on the road as a musician. From 1975 he was a singer for CITY, which delivered the biggest hit of DDR rock with Am Fenster. In 1989 he was one of the initiators of the Resolution of Rock Musicians. In 1990 he founded the first independent DDR record company K&P Musik.
