The conference aims to address the latest methodological development in teaching and learning foreign languages for professional purposes and expose their relevance and importance to the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. The conference will include plenary sessions with interventions by invited key-note speakers and parallel workshops on the practical implementation of the proposed methodologies/approaches in different contexts.
Dr. Karl-Hubert Kiefer from Technische Universität Berlin will speak about Planning and organizing language lessons tailored to the needs of hospitality and tourism followed by a workshop about Training of language and communication skills tailored to the needs of hospitality and tourism.
Karl-Hubert Kiefer has been working for over ten years as a DAAD-lecturer at the Warsaw School of Economics and for two years at Roedl&Partner office in Warsaw (audit, legal, management, IT and tax consulting) as an editor and translator. Karl holds the Ph.D. degree in German as a foreign language (doctoral thesis about communication competences in the professional field of tax advisory). Actually he works as a lecturer at the Department of “Language and Communication“ at the Technical University of Berlin and on his habilitation thesis about large group discussions between experts. Apart from this, his current research interests lie primarily in the field of (electronic) learning, scenario based learning and teaching with particular focus on (transnational) professional communication. He participates in various projects concerning business communication, needs analysis and communication skills in the field of tourism.
