On the occasion of the European Year of Youth the Goethe-Institut Cyprus is organizing a short presentation of the bestselling and popular youth novel Why we took the car (original title: Tschick) by awarded German author Wolfgang Herrndorf, which will take place within the framework of the Nicosia Book Fest. This funny coming-of-age story explores the unconventional friendship between two 14 year olds who end up on a road trip using a "borrowed" car and find themselves on an adventurous journey from careless adolescence to adulthood.

The book, published in 2010, has appeared in over 25 countries and until 2016 sold over 2 million copies in Germany alone. In 2016 the film adaption was released, titled Goodbye Berlin (original title: Tschick), directed by Fatih Akin and received numerous awards.

Moderator: Diomedes Koufteros

The 7th Nicosia Book Fest is organized by the Promitheas Research Institute and will take place on 22-23 October 2022 (new dates) at the Acropolis Park.
